Syrian social insurance in the salary estimate
Why employee deductions and employer contributions are different, and how the contribution ceiling affects both.
Rules version SY-2026.1 · Reviewed 2 October 2026
Employee versus employer amounts
The employee contribution reduces take-home pay. The employer contribution is an additional payroll cost and must not be deducted from the employee's salary. Salary Ledger keeps the two amounts separate in both the individual and bulk views.
Contribution wage
The current default uses the lower of gross monthly salary and SYP 240,000 as the contribution wage. The default 7.1% employee rate and 16.9% employer rate are applied to that same capped amount.
Worked example
At gross salary of SYP 2,000,000, the SYP 240,000 default ceiling produces employee insurance of SYP 17,040 and employer insurance of SYP 40,560. The employer amount increases estimated employer cost; it does not change the employee's net salary.
Verification checklist
- Confirm that the employee is covered.
- Confirm whether gross, basic or another registered wage is the contribution base.
- Confirm the ceiling and its effective date.
- Confirm whether sector-specific or employee-specific rates apply.
- Retain the instruction or filing record supporting the rate used.
